Shows United States, Canada, Russian America (Alaska) and Mexico before 'The Treaty of Guadalupe Hidalgo', signed on February 2, 1848, ended the Mexican-American War in favor of the United States. The treaty added an additional 525,000 square miles to United States territory, including the land that makes up all or parts of present-day Arizona, California, Colorado, Nevada, New Mexico, Utah and Wyoming. Mexico also gave up all claims to Texas and recognized the Rio Grande as America’s southern boundary. Published in 1848 by Charles Knight of 22 Ludgate Street for the Society for the Diffusion of Useful Knowledge, or S.D.U.K.

An antique map engraved by J&C Walker. Shows Lake Michigan, the second largest of the five Great Lakes, and the only one that lies entirely within the United States. Centered on Lake Michigan, it shows the states of Michigan and Wisconsin. The map covers the Huron or Northwest Territory (modern day Wisconsin) and the Michigan Territory (modern day Michigan) along with parts of northern Illinois. The map names several Indian tribes, including the Ottawa and the Chippeway. The Bad Axe River is also identified. This is where the Bad Axe Massacre or the Battle of Bad Axe was fought at the end of the Black Hawk War in 1832. Published under the Superintendence of the Society for the Diffusion of Usefull Knowledge by Baldwin & Cradock April 1st, 1834.

An antique map of Florida engraved by J. & C. Walker eleven years before statehood. Shows Apalachicolato to the Perdido River, on the same scale in an inset. Many interesting place names. The southern half is virtually empty of settlement, but is bisected by a long Indian path. Locates C. Canaveral, Seminole Agency, Lake Macaco and the Everglades. The first railroad was chartered three years before this map, but we find no mention of it here. showing Monroe County, Mosquito County and the Seminole Indian Lands in the Southern Part of the State and naming the Everglades for the first time. Published under the Superintendence of the Society for the Diffusion of Usefull Knowledge by Baldwin & Cardock Feb.1st, 1834. Top margin cropped into printed border.

An antique map of Iowa . Covers the entire state as well as neighbouring parts of Nebraska, Missouri, Minnesota, Wisconsin and Illinois. Like most of Colton's state maps, this map is largely derived from an earlier wall map of North America produced by Colton and D. Griffing Johnson. Colton identifies various cities, towns, forts, rivers, rapids, fords, and an assortment of additional topographical details. Map is hand colored in pink, green, yellow and blue pastels to define county and state boundaries. Surrounded by Colton's typical spiral motif border. Dated and copyrighted to J. H. Colton, 1855.

This map is from the Cerographic Atlas of the United States, supplement to the New York Observer. It has been colored by the cerographic printing process (a type of lithography) which left a grid of very fine green lines and a thick green line for the county boundaries. There are inset maps of Philadelphia and the coal regions'. Longitude from Washington at bottom, from Greenwich at top.

This map was issued only six years after Iowa became a state and development is still confined to the eastern part of the state and along major waterways. An antique map which covers the entire country, issued just prior to the beginning of the Civil War, which is the main focus of the map. The colour code indicates Federal Non-Slaveholding States (pink), States bordering Slaveholding States (blue), and the Confederate Slaveholding States (yellow). Also indicates the Indian Territory with its own colour (green). The large Washington Territory extends east to the Continental Divide and south to the Utah Territory. The proposed Territory of Arizona is shown in the southern part of New Mexico Territory. A huge Dakota Territory extends from Minnesota to Washington. The map is surrounded by a decorative vine and leaf border. An uncommon pre-Civil War issue that was published by the London Printing and Publishing Company. Circa 1861. Original colouring. Several old vertical and horizontal folds with some foxing.
