The original map was drawn by Phillip Carteret who captained The Swallow which had reached the Strait of Macassar [i.e. Makassar] on Nov. 14, 1767 London. Published by Alexr. Hogg, 1784-86. Bonthain Bay at the island of Sulawesi [i.e. Celebes]. The bay is about 30 leagues to the southeast of Macassar. Large amount of detail in the bay including the location of numerous soundings, rocks, bottom type, and shoals.
