An antique map of the Indian Ocean by D'Apres De Mannevillette, which was published in 1775. It extends from the Cape of Good Hope, in the west to Western Australia in the East. Many rhumb lines and fine detail along the coasts of Africa, Asia, and Australia. Names ports, ocean passages, and islands of various sizes. Madagascar, Borneo, and the Philippines are depicted in particular detail. Parts of Australia’s coast are left open to the ocean, indicating that the coastline was as yet uncharted in those areas. Mannevillette was a prominent French hydrographer and cartographer, and a superior officer in the French East India Company. Nice condition.

An antique map, engraved by R. Spofforth, from an edition of "A New Sett of Maps Both of Antient and Present Geography" published by Edward Wells M.A. Oxon, in 1743 which covers the western part of Turkey from the Aegean Sea in the West, southern coast of the Black Sea in the north, to Lemnos, Keos and Cos in the west and south, along the Mediterranean as far east as the ancient city of Pompeiopolis. A decorative title cartouche appears in the top left corner, which shows a coat of arms and a dedication to the Duke of Gloucester. Uncoloured as published.

Shows the Black Sea, The Sea of Marmora, Mediterranean Sea, and the Caspian Sea. Also modern-day Turkey, Cyprus, Syria, Israel, Jordan, Lebanon, Armenia & Georgia. Some light browning in the vertical centrefold otherwise nice clean map.

An antique map of southern Asia is based on Ptolemy and other ancient sources. Numerous small islands surround the huge island of Taprobana. Beyond the Sinus Magnus lies an indefinite landmass labeled Sinae that stretches off the map in the east. Engraved by Philippe Cluverius (1580-1622), geographer of Danzig. Published circa 1711 with later hand colouring. Vertical folds as issued. Very good condition.

The map was originally drawn in 1805 by Robert Roberts, a printer and author who ran a private educational academy in Holyhead. The map was published in Holyhead on March 1st, 1814 by R. Roberts.
