An antique plan of the "Battles of Lonato & Castiglione..." by Alexander Keith Johnston. F.R.G.S. published by William Blackwood and Sons in 1848 with original colouring. The plan shows the Cavalry, Infantry and Artillery of the French and Austrians.The Battle of Lonato was fought on August 3rd and 4th, 1796 and resulted in a victory by the French army of General Napoleon Bonaparte. The Battle of Castiglione resulted in the Austrian army being driven back along a line of hills to the river crossing at Borghetto, where they retired beyond the Mincio River.
