Glamorga' Comitatus. Published in 'An Atlas of England and Wales' by C. Saxton, 1579' with original hand colouring.. This is the earliest printed map of Glamganshire and is a finely engraved map with two distinct lettering styles - Capital letters for large towns and cities and smaller letters for the rest. Has four sailing vessels and a sea monster in the sea which is dotted and stippled. A pair of dividers surmounts the scale which carries Saxton's name. It carries the Royal Arms of Elizabeth I, which is supported by a Lion and Dragon rampant, and the arms of Thomas Seckford with the moto "Industria Naturam Ornat". Right vertical margin extended as shown. Age toned and on thick paper. Includes free mounting on request.
