The first printed map of Denbigh and Flint published in 'An Atlas of England and Wales' by C. Saxton, in 1579' with original hand colouring. Engraved by Remigius Hogenberg it has two distinct lettering styles - Capital letters for large towns and cities and smaller letters for the rest. Has two sailing vessels in the sea which is dotted and stippled. A pair of dividers surmounts the scale which carries Saxton's name. It carries the Royal Arms of Elizabeth I, which is supported by a Lion and Dragon rampant, and the arms of Thomas Seckford with the moto "Industria Naturam Ornat". Bunch of grapes watermark. Slight staining and spotting. Includes free mounting on request.
