Glamorga' Comitatus australis Cambriae pars descriptio Ano Dni 1578. The first printed map of Glamorganshire published in 'An Atlas of England and Wales' by C. Saxton, 1579' with original hand colouring. A finely engraved map with two distinct lettering styles - Capital letters for large towns and cities and smaller letters for the rest. Has four sailing vessels and a sea monster in the sea which is dotted and stippled. A pair of dividers surmounts the scale which carries Saxton's name. It carries the Royal Arms of Elizabeth I, which is supported by a Lion and Dragon rampant, and the arms of Thomas Seckford with the moto "Industria Naturam Ornat". Bunch of grapes watermark.
