Humphrey Llwyds Cambriae Typus, is the earliest printed map to show Wales as a separate country. Compared to a modern map of Wales, there are a few defects and mistakes in the map including the Lleyn peninsula being distorted and bent towards the south, thus making North Wales look so much smaller and Aberdaron look to be due north of Aberayron instead of far to the west of it. The Gower peninsula is not shown. The rivers Rheidol and Ystwyth have their names transposed. This map is from a new plate, in its first state, which was referred to by Dr. North as Variant B1. The title cartouche has been changed as has the quarter compass in the bottom left corner with rhumb lines. Published 1607 - 1633 with later hand colouring. Margins as shown, with repair in top right corner. Overall age toned.
