Humphrey Llwyds Cambriae Typus, is the earliest printed map to show Wales as a separate country. Compared to a modern map of Wales, there are a few defects and mistakes in the map including the Lleyn peninsula being distorted and bent towards the south, thus making North Wales look so much smaller and Aberdaron look to be due north of Aberayron instead of far to the west of it. The Gower peninsula is not shown. The rivers Rheidol and Ystwyth have their names transposed. This map was published in the Mercator atlas by Jansson (1636 - 1642). Referred to by Dr. North as variant B2. The quarter compass rose remains from the previous state of the map, together with a solitary sea monster. The two sailing ships from the previous state have disappeared. Clean map with very wide margins. Latin text on verso.
