An antique woodcut engraving which was published in "The Illustrated London News" on November 26th, 1859.The most famous of the survivors of the 'Royal Charet' shipwreck was the Guzeppi Ruggier (Joseph Rodgers). His was a Boatswain's Mate on the ship. His act of bravery, to swim ashore with a rope tied around his middle (as shown) to enable a bosun's chair to be rigged, was immortalised in a painting by Henry Nelson O'Neil in 1861 called 'The Volunteer'.
