This print shows the Duke of Newcastle holding a whip aloft in his right hand, a hunting party beyond, Bothel Castle in Northumberland in background. The print is from the 1737 English edition of Cavendishs exposition on the theory and practice of equestrian dressage. La Methode et Invention Nouvelle de Dresser les Chevaux, was first published in 1657 in Antwerp by William Cavendish. Engraved by Adriaen Lommelin after Abraham van Diepenbeeck. Numbered 41 in lower right. Page number burnished in top right. Previously laid on fine paper to strengthen old tear extending 8cms from the old vertical centrefold at the top of the image. Archival material applied to bottom right corner on verso to strengthen some small tears, but no loss of paper. Two very tiny holes visible when held up to the light.
