An antique line engraving after Stukeley of 'Lemanis Portus 9 Oct. 1722' which appeared in William Stukeley's 'Itinerarium curiosum' (London: 1724). Latin name of an ancient Roman fort, settlement and port in southern Kent. The modern village of Lympne derives its name from the ancient port.
