Landscape with figures sitting beneath a huge oak tree, split in the centre and a platform wedged within the trunk, said by Welsh legend to contain the body of Howl Sele, a Welsh chieftain, immured by his arch rival Owen Glyndwr; situated within the kitchen garden walls of Sir Robert Williams Vaughan, Bart. at Nannau, near Dolgelle (before falling on 27th July 1813, the day that Sir Richard Colt Hoare sketched the subject); inscription on separate plate below giving reference to 'Pennant, Vol. I p. 348' on the related legend.
