Michel Ney, in full Michel Ney, duke dElchingen, (born January 10, 1769, Sarrelouis, Francedied December 7, 1815, Paris), one of the best known of Napoleons marshals (from 1804). He pledged his allegiance to the restored Bourbon monarchy when Napoleon abdicated in 1814. Upon Napoleons return in 1815, Ney rejoined him and commanded the Old Guard at the Battle of Waterloo.
