This decorative and early map by Gerhard Mercator shows the the northern part of Scotland, from a French edition of the Mercator-Hondius Atlas Major, a reprint of Mercator's earlier Atlas sive Cosmographiae. It is beautifully engraved with a moiré patterned sea, elegant calligraphy, a large strapwork title cartouche. French text on verso. Published by Henricus Hondius, between 1613 and 1630. Bottom right corner: "Per Gerardum Mercatorem Cum priuilegio."Wide margins.
