An extremely rare miniature county map which was published in John Bill's "The Abridgement of Camden's Britania..." in 1626, with later hand colouring. It was the only edition of this now rare atlas. These were the first county maps to show longitude and latitude and look rather like Pieter van den Keere's maps but are much more difficult to find and sought after by collectors. Some surface dirt.

Britton, but was used unchanged in Cole & Roper's 'The British Atlas comprising a Complete Set of County Maps of England and Wales....in 1810; the maps were then re-used in Joseph Nightingale's English Topography in 1816, and in the first edition of Dugdale's Curiosities of Great Britain, England & Wales Delineated 1835 (later editions used maps by John Archer). A miniature antique county map by John Cary and like all his work work, the engraving is extremely fine, and although it is a small map it is clearly defined. London, Published by G. & J. Cary, No. 86 St James's Str. Published in 1824 with original hand colouring. The title is at the top with a semicircular compass above. At the bottom there is a table of distances from London. They came about at a time when roads were being used as never before, and therefore the need for accurate road maps was imminent. Good margins and fine condition.

This rare and curious antique map of Somerset and Dorset was produced from the research of Aristide Michael Perrot and engraved by Adrien Migneret, was published in G. B. Depping's L'Angleterre. Ou Description Historique et Topographique Du Royaume Royaume Uni De La Grande-Bretagn in 1823. This map, a copper plate engraving, has original outline hand colouring. Some maps show a single county, but more often two or more counties were joined to form a group which is similar in industry, agriculture and terrain.

This highly decorative antique county map of Somerset has been embellished with armorials and three views of Great Malvern, Worcester and Croom Court. It was first published in 1836 and subsequent editions were published by George Virtue. who later used the plates for publication in Barclay's Universal English Dictionary from 1842 until 1852. The plates were continuously amended to reflect the changes to the country by the rapidly growing railway network. This map includes railways and has been coloured by hand.

Hobson used maps printed from the Walkers' lithographic plates, and added features relevant to fox-hunting: the territory of each hunt is outlined in watercolour, and the places of meets are indicated by black spots. Contemporary hand colouring. with ornate title cartouche to upper left corner and vignette illustrations surrounding distance scale to lower right corner. Panel with eight shields, of which six bear family coats of arms and two are blank. Two marginal repairs not affecting image. Archival tape applied to split in paper along part of the watermark. No paper loss.
