John Subury & George Humble in 1611. (1st Edition) Classic antique map of the British Isles during the time of the Anglo-Saxon Heptarchy or Seven Kingdoms. The engraving has a central map of the British Isles embellished with coats of arms and showing the territorial divisions of the Heptarchy. The left border incorporates portraits of the Seven Anglo-Saxon Kings in armour and martial attire. On the right, seven vignettes illustrate scenes in the conversion of the seven kingdoms to Christianity following the arrival of St.Augustine's Mission at the end of the Sixth Century AD. English text on verso. A fine dark impression in original condition with wide margins.

A very scarce antique map which was published in France in 1772 by Phillipe Buache who succeeded his relative Guillaume De L'Isle. The De L'Isle family were a very influential cartographic dynasty. The map depicts the British Isles and Ireland with northern France and part of Scandinavia shown. It is in very good condition with full borders as published. A few traces of worm on the bottom edge and a small repair to the centrefold in the bottom margin.
